A squid gives off blue ink when in danger.

How would this protect a squid?

  1. It clouds the water, enabling the squid to swim quickly away. Try grabbing one -- not a pretty sight!


  2. It would protect the squid only against predators using visual means to locate the squid.  The color doesn't matter much, as long as it can use its chromatophores to match its own color to that of the ink.
