I have a user calling from Verizon and it gets routed to another carrier, such as comcast, when they call certain people. In Verizon's database, it shows one name but on the caller display of the comcast subscriber, it shows as another. Why does this happen?

  1. the government of that state updates it,

  2. caller ID is handled by third party company.  They provide the information. When a new Telephone number is setup, the third party company recieves that information, and updates the database.

Some companies, like Windstream, have a datebase of their own. Some companies refuse to update their databases, so you will get conflicting information.

Sometimes, records are not created properly, leaving some of the old information there.

    It depends.

  3. almost every phone-provider and ....VoIP....cell....provider has a database with all the names/number stored...then the new names/numbers get added like every 24 hours, some take up to 4 days....some VoIP provider take 1 week or longer!!

The names and numbers get added immediately, but the computer gets updated every 24 hours!!
