How does cell phone long distance work in Canada?

I live in and have a Toronto number, and am visiting Edmonton. I know that if I call an Edmonton number from my phone while in the city its local, and if I call Toronto its long distance.

But what about if someone calls me from Toronto while I'm in Edmonton. I know they pay long distance, but do I?

  1. It absolutely depends on your provider and the plan you are on.

You need to call them directly and ask.

  2. if you are in Edmonton calling Edmonton it will still be long distance.  With most carriers you will also get MASSIVE roaming charges.  I'd check into it because a 5 minute call could end up costing you EASILY $10.

EDIT: if someone calls you they will not pay long distance because they are still calling a Toronto number, you will still pay the roaming charges though

  3. It depends on what plan you are on and who you are with. AT&T (mine) doesn't work like that. i can be in China and call my mom in New York and it wouldn't cost anything. Other providers though are different.
