Question:

How does charging affect batttery memory?

I have read that you shouldn't leave your laptop plugged in always, that you should ideally 'use' the battery by charging and draining it completely - this increases/maintains battery life. But i have also read that the battery's life reduces each time it's charged and used.

Both these points are contradicting each other.

Please could someone explain what's right and what's not?

Thanks

  1. Hey there has never been a proper solution to this problem. A battery has an average life of 3 years. So no matter how you use it, it will definitely fail after that.

  2. It doesn't matter if you leave it plugged in when using it but if you are not going to use it for a long time unplug it.

The newer batteries do not develop a memory so you can charge it anytime.

  3. i run it down when i remember---dell 1705 -----going on five years old still holds a 2 hr 10 min chaqrge ----when useing or at home its never un pluged( off or on)
