  1. Think about how you work best.  When you are in the mood for a project, or really interested in your work, you are more productive, and your brain is "fired up"!  Children are the same way.  They are more apt to learn when they are excited or at the very least, interested in the subject matter.  Also, child initiated play tends to involve "hands-on" experiences.  No matter what the age, the more senses that are involved, the more likely that learning will occur.  Every subject area (including math) can be presented with materials that children will naturally want to explore.

  2. They are doing what they are interested in and find their own answers while exploring.

  3. As an adult, everything you do is self-initiated.  Don't you think it would be wise to practice before then?  The more you practice, the more mistakes you make and the more mistakes you avoid as an adult.
