I am getting custody of my 12 yr. old son and my ex is keeping our daughter. I currently pay for both of them with child support. How does it work after we each have one? Will I still pay child support? How do thye figure it out?? Thanks

  1. Depending on the laws where you live would determine that. Here in TX, if you split two kids up then there is no child support.

Check out this website - it should help.

  2. Why are you splitting up the kids?  It depends on your income and his.

  3. If he has one and you the other, then there shouldn't be any child support. I hope that you are sharing joint custody, but each having  physical custody of one.  That of course depends how much money each of you make also. That is something the courts will decide.

  4. Well I would think that you would only have to pay for the child not in custody with you, but then the child you have custody of your ex might have to pay childsupport for... But wouldnt make sense for both of you to pay childsupport to each other..  I would call your local childsupport office and ask them the same thing you asked here, or you could even go to the childsupport office website for your state and see if they have that question there or email them with your question.
