  1. It  doesn't. Copper slip grease has a very high melting point which

is ideal for use on brake components. As you know, if you drive hard

and fast you will use your brakes a lot, these will heat up and melt

any normal grease that you apply to the rear of the pads so this is

where copper grease comes into its own. What stops your brakes

from making that horrible squealing noise is the anti squeal shim

which is fitted by the manufacturer between the piston caliper and

the brake pad. As copper grease has a very high melting point its

ideal for use on these parts because it wont melt away and it

prevents rusting on the components it is applied to .So when you

have to change your brake pads you will find that everything comes

    apart easily.Good Init.

  2. You must mean Copper Spray-a-Gasket. Actually not grease at all. The stickiness keeps the pads from vibrating, which is the root cause of brake squeal. A lot of people use it because it's easier than doing the job right. Either that, or the blue stuff.

If you have friction between the disc and calipers, you're definitely doing something wrong!

  3. Disc brake squeel is caused by the disc and pad vibrating at differing frequencies. The use of copper slip is to "Bond" the pad to the calliper so that they both vibrate at the same frequency.

You'll notice on most pads there is a clip that secures one pad to the calliper, on some there is also a self adhesive pad to bond the other brake pad to the calliper frame, this ensures that pads and disc vibrate at the same frequency.

  4. When you apply brake pressure to the brake calipers, they intern apply pressure to the brake pads. Often the pressure applied is not that high so the vibrations from the friction between the disc and calipers causes the pads to vibrate against the pistons of the calipers. If copper grease is applied to the back of the pads it acts like a vibration dampener and reduces the noise.

    Ja.
