I am buying some items from China. I am paying $179 and also $40 for shipping. UPS will ship it to me in Indiana. How does customs work exactly? How much do I have to pay in customs? What exactly are the rates?

if you go throguh customs, they just will x-ray and inspect it, if further protocol is necessary they will have to open it, in most airports customs is free.
