How does divorce affect husbands and wives and the families?

Hello, I will need some help on this question that way I could know the correct answer for the final of sociology 105.

So far you do not have any answers based on sociological theory.

From what I remember from my Soc of the family course:

Sociologists will give you a percentage or marriages that end in divorce.  I believe approximately 50%

They may speak about how mothers are often left with the children and how fathers, rightfully or not, feel mothers turn them against them.

Sociologists may also do analysis on how children from divorced families generally are not as successful in life because they do not have the same options as children with two parents.   But this is also more a case of social class as many single mothers reside in working or lower classes.  There is a lot to this question and these are some items that may be helpful.   The previous emotional answer has nothing to do with sociology and is something you could hear from any person who has never taken a sociology course.

Also men are more likely to remarry.  Sociologists would know the average time that males take to remarry and the average time it takes women to remarry and I recall males remarry quicker and in shorter periods of time.  Since women are often left to take care of the children they are hampered more financially and less likely to remarry.

It splits people apart.  Takes away their security.  Makes them feel divided between their parents.  Causes guilt about taking sides.  Leaves them open to abuse.  Causes great pain and hurt.  Makes them less likely to choose stable marriage partners.  It is the ultimate act of unforgiveness and it is never entered into lightly, as some people may imagine.
