How does drifting work?

Just curious that some people tell me that drifting cars only work on RWD n manual transmisson. I wonder why only RWD can drift but FWD can't, or ,in fact, FWD can drift as well? n also why auto transmission is not capable, or isn't it? Please explain n thanks.

  1. You slightly lift up on the clutch wen going into a turn. You also pull up on the emergency break slightly while doing this. You will have no control when doing it on a front wheel drive. It will not work with a automatic, since there is no clutch.

  2. 'drifting' is making your car slide by causing the wheels to lose traction, front wheel drives can do it, but only in reverse. as for manual transmission, if you have enough power you can do it in an auto, but using a manual gives you more control over it and lets you jerk the drivetrain to break traction.

  3. You go really fast and ebrake or use your regular brakes and turn really hard and you sort of drift on the pavement.

  4. It just will not work with FWD. If you know what your doing an auto trans works just fine.

  5. DRIFTING IS HARD RWD ITS EASIER IT IS SLIDING ARROUND THE CORNER AT A TOP END SPEED OR BY USING E BRAKE BUT ON FWD IT IS ALL ABOUT WHEEEL CONTROLL ITS ALOT HARDER YOU USE E BRAKE TO LOCK BACK WHEELS AND SLIDE TY SOME GOING SLOW IN BACK ROADS OF GRAVEL IT SHOULD WORK EASIER BUT IF THIS DIDINT HELP GO TO YOU TUBE AND LOOK IT UP

  6. Drifting is a controlled crash so to speak. You force the back end of your car to slide by losing traction (this can be done with a hand brake, or simply by turning sharply). You then control the slide with the throttle by giving the rear wheels enough spin to 'slide' around but not too much that it completely loses control.

FWD cars can't do this because the rear tyre has no power and cannot spin. And they can't drift in reverse either.
