Question:

How does dry erase marker take off permanent marker?

My roommate and I were scrubbing an old white board trying to remove permanent marker. After scraping with a razor blade, windexing, and sponging, it was starting to come off. He googled it and it said to use a dry-erase marker to write over it then wipe it off. It worked! Any details of how this can happen? Like chemical properties or anything fairly technical? Thanks!

  1. I don't know how or why it works but who cares?  All I know is that is works and that's a godsend.

  2. Use rubbing alcohol. Permanent marker is usually alcohol based [like sharpies] and rubbing alcohol will make it come right off. I am skeptical of dry erase marker working to take permanent marker off.
