Marx probably would have thought that race was a method of conflict and division of the working class it is hard to know because he lived in a profoundly white-centric period of history, race wasnt really thought about much be social thinkers back then. This is what he though of the national divisions between the english working class and the irish. The english workers believing they were inferior. Marx stated that the english working class could be free unless they freed the irish workers from opression, this was becuase he believe that these groups were dualy oppressed by the ruling class. This is in line with modern marxist thought that believes that racism itself was a way of dividing the ruling class.

    Durkheim too, lived in a period where racism wasnt prevalent. In line with functionalist thought. It would probably be though of as a fact or a necessary organ of society. But I dont really know if this is true.


  2. Marx was racist.

    In his Communist Manifesto he called the Chinese "uncivilized barbarians."

    But Marx wanted all of the lower class to unite and fight the upper class so it is up to interpretation who he wanted to include and exclude.
