  1. Ebay is not a scam.  I have bought and sold on there alot.  You do have to use common sense, like what the person's ratings are that you are buying from.

I like ioffer.com it is similar to ebay but you can make an offer on something you want to buy.

  2. I agree with April, ebay is NOT a scam, but there are scammers on ebay. They are pretty good about keeping them under control. Like April said, use common sense & it will be good. I've been buying/selling from them for 10 years now & never had a problem WITH ebay, & only had one "issue" with a seller but it still wasn't that big of a deal. Ebay also offers a "Buy it now" section, if you find a category of wedding dresses for example that you're interested in, but want to skip the bidding part, (which can get frustrating if you really want something bad!) click on the "Buy It Now" tab, & it will list all the dresses that sellers offer this option for. Serious sellers will describe EVERYTHING about the dress, including anything wrong with it like if it's stained with lipstick on the collar or something, if there's no description, it's probably not worth checking into that dress any further. If you're a serious wedding dress buyer that needs something quicker then an ebay process, I'd suggest skipping ebay & try looking at local tailor shops & botiques/consignment stores. Their dresses usually are in fantastic condition, well priced & they often tailor it for you if you need. Have fun!

  3. Ebay isn't a scam, you just have to be cautious of who you buy from.  Check the seller's feedback and see if it's good or if they have sold any similar items.

Also, they could have the price so low because they figure that many people will bid on it, making the price go up.  A lot of sellers start bidding low in order to reel bidders in, and by the time the bidding is over, it ends up selling for waaay more than the starting price.  For example, some people start bidding for Nintendo Wiis at $0.01.  That doesn't mean that the Wii doesn't work or that it's a piece of junk, they just want to get the bidding started.  Bidders think, "Wow, I could get this so cheap if no one bids!"  But of course a bunch of people think that and then there is, what I like to call a 'bidding war', and it ends up selling for over $300.

But anyway, the whole point of ebay, in my opinion, is to be able to buy things for a bargain price.  I only buy things on ebay if I can get them lower than retail price.  As for the dress being $9, well, the seller may figure that making any money off the dress is better than having it sit around the house.  That's my thought when I sell something on ebay.
