  1. I believe that a lot of disharmony is caused by fear and lack of understanding.  Sometimes it is easier to be critical or hateful or harshly judgemental of differences in those around us.  If we are taught about differences and better yet get to be around a diverse community and encouraged to celebrate their differences we understand and become comfortable with the differences.  Some of the things I studied  or read- The Diary of Anne Frank, The Underground RailRoad, The  Three Faces of Eve, Black Like Me, A Tree Grows in Brooklynn ,on and on haha, give such insight into ways of life that I had no concept about.  It integrates  ME more into the flow of a larger community.  It also is a great equalizer.  Education wasn't always available to everyone. Some people had/still have I might say an advantage over others which in itself can cause disharmony.Good question.  I wish you serenity

  2. Terrific question!

In my view, that exact question should be asked more frequently by all adults and it certainly should be asked repeatedly -until answered without Political Correctness or spin- by every person that is currently in a political position or aspires to be in politics.

Education is the glue that holds the community together -or, at least if we're assuming a civilized community.  Education provides the road (for most) of growth and development of our cognitive, social, and spiritual selves and helps connect us to the larger community of families, organizations, societies, nations, and ultimately the planet.  The absence of education is chaos and an unmitigated charge toward survival of the strongest -which today means, whoever has the most lethal weapons.

Education not only allows for knowledge and skills (competencies), but equally as important, it allows for a deeper understanding beyond the "self," beyond the confines of our own horizons and experiences ... as such, education encourages reflection, introspection, and a curiosity to seek beyond the limits of our own harbors.

Derek Bok, a past president of Harvard University was asked why education was so expensive.  His reply ... simple yet profound, "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance."

Good luck with your presentation ... have fun!
