How does flash works on a camera phone?

What is flash? Does flash comes out every time you use the camera?I heard it will automatically comes on when the brightness is too dark...Is it true? When I use my dad's camera, the flash comes on every time I take a picture and I don't want the flash on coz it's already really bright!

flash is what a camera uses when it is to dark for a good picture to be taken in that light so the flash lights up that area for the picture. flash can come on every time but you can set it to auto and then it should only come on when the camera thinks it needs to.to stop your dads camera doing that you need to go into settings and turn and find flash and pick of or better auto so the flash will still come on when it is to dark.
