when zinc is placed onto iron (does not coat the whole iron), and you leave it in air for a long long time, how does the zinc protect the iron?

and if you were to connect zinc and iron electrically, do the electrons play a part in protecting the iron?

  1. Originally, galvanization was the administration of electric shocks. In current use, it typically means hot-dip galvanizing, a metallurgical process that is used to coat steel or iron with zinc.
