How does gravel pits form?

How does the hill of gravel get there while all around is dirt. Did they come from the glaciers period?

  1. Yes, glaciers push rocks along beneath them. the rock accumulate and are deposited as the glaciers melt.


  2. The gravel was probably dumped there by a lorry driver.

    Some of it would have been heaped up into a mound by a worker with his square mouthed shovel probably being paid a pittance by some fat cat somewhere.
