When a calf is weaned then sold off the ranch, they go to a feedlot or finishing lot, depending on how much they weigh.  At the feedlot, they are fed a mixture of corn, alfalfa, etc. until they get to a certain weight.  They are then taken to the packing plant to be slaughtered.  Then they go to the restaurants as steaks, burger, etc.
