How does he get back without a passport?

Question

My boyfriend is 17 years old born in Atlanta, Georgia. His parents sent him to Nigeria which was supposed to be a week trip, but when he got there they had his passport taken away by his uncle. His uncle doesn't want to be in on this, however, my boyfriends parents are the ones sending his uncle money. He doesn't turn 18 until 11/27/2008. How can he get back?? What can I do to help him?? How can he get another passport??

Why did his parents send him to Nigeria?  I would recommend that he contact the American Embassy there, and if he can show proof that he is an American birth certificates etc... then he may be able to apply for a new passport.  My question is why was his passport taken away?  Are they trying to keep him from getting in trouble?  This all seems a little odd.
