  1. HSLDA is just an organization that helps homeschoolers.  If you join HSLDA and encounter an legal probrems, they have lawyers who will help you.

The other thing HSLDA is good for, is information.  Here is the information on your state's laws:

This is what your state requries from homeschoolers.

When you are homeschooling, your parents are in charge of your education.  They decided what to teach and how to teach it to you.  There are many different ways to teach subjects, depending on how a student learns the best.

Online is one option, and you can find out more about it here:

Here's a state organization in KY:

They also have a list of local support groups on that site.  Joining a local support group will help you get started, meet other homeschoolers, and find activities to participate in.

  2. it is appx 247 for us a year.  we have 2 kids.  as long as we are doing our part legally ( intent to file letter filed and meeting requirements set forth by your state) then HSLDA will provide, free of charge, legal services for ANY charge brought against you or to help you in relation to HOMESCHOOLING ( not Dui, not B&E, not your cousins stolen car) and your ability to continue to homeschool if you are being persecuted or challeneged etc...it is WELL worth the investment... do it...... please.... because if you get a social work or board of education visit and THEN call them, they DO NOT cover that offense or litigation.....

  3. hslda is just a legal organization that will support your parents if they are drawn into some types of legal issues. such as truancy, etc. They don't help out with any other sort of homeschooling issue. They are usually recommended for people to visit to find out more about laws in their state, since they vary from state to state.

You'll need to find other  resources for your education. There are many curriculum choices online. Good luck

  4. HSLDA stands for Home School Legal Defense Association and they are a wonderful on several levels.  Yes, they can give you legal support and advice but they also have a web site with lots of great information about how to homeschool.  You can join HSLDA by paying a membership fee and receive magazines and information concerning the state of homeschooling in the US and around the world even.  They offer resources for purchase as well.  If you want someone to stay in touch with you to help hold you accountable, HSLDA can put you in touch with a state organization dedicated to helping Kentucky homeschoolers.  The state organization can help you find homeschoolers in your local area so you can have some support and information.  Depending on the legal requirements, some support groups will help keep your records and provide testing, field trips, and other ways to make friends.

Call HSLDA.  they will be happy to answer all your questions and point you in the right direction.
