  1. Of course hydroelectric power is not really "free."  No fuel must be purchased to produce it, but the dam and generating equipment must be maintained, at a large cost.  Also, the capital cost of the facility must be amortized over many years.

Hydroelectric power is clean in terms of atmospheric pollution, but the dam can do immense harm to river ecosystems.  So it has its pros and its cons.

  2. Once you erect the dam it is free.  You get electricity and as long as the water flows.

Unlike wind which varies hydroelectric energy is constant. Unlike solar you can get electricity 24 hours a day as long as the lake does not freeze solid or dry up.

  3. Hydro electric power is cheaper than fossil fuels but if you consider the actual cost of environmental damage, ecco system of river etc it is not that much cheap

Dams built for hydro power have limited life.

The reservoirs gets filled up and gradually the actual storge reduced  than the designed.

When dams are built, rehabilating the people who looses the homes and land is a big problem.

no atmospheric pollution such as smoke, dust etc

    not dangerous as nuclear power.
