If both parents are Cdn it is a lot easier - the kid has dual citzenship - assuming the other nation allows it -

If the kid has only one parent that is Cdn the same thing happens but the paper work becomes more intense -

Every country has its own nationality laws.  A few allow automatic citizenship to those born there, but most do not.  On the other hand, citizenship by blood, from a parent, nearly always applies.
