  2. 'The Domino Effect'. In the 1950s, North Korea invaded South Korea in order to 'unify' the country. North Korea, under Kim Il-Sung's reign, had fallen to communism. It was speculated that if South Korea fell that there would be a domino effect that would turn the rest of Asia to communism. Given Australia's position in the Pacific, there were fears that an invasion was imminent, especially after the Japanese bombing of Darwin during WWII.
