  1. EXCELLENT QUESTION!!!!  Here goes...

sun warms the ocean waters and helps foster an algal bloom.  this algal bloom is an abundant food supply for zooplankton.  Now the algae take in CO2 and five off O2 for their photosynthetic function, but the population of zooplankton grows exponentially in response to the new rise in temp, and also the recent availability of lots and lots of food!  The zooplankton give off more CO2 than the zooplankton can adsorb, generating tons and tons that cannot stay in solution and so is emitted to the atmosphere over the open ocean environment to keep the ocean waters in pH balance.

Where does this warming come from in the first place?  Well, a small cadre of scientists in Europe have put together some impressive data (hard numbers not theories) and a couple graphs which seem to point to the occurance of sun spots on our sun and the global rise in temperature.  They then graphed the production of CO2 along with the rise in water temp, and guess what....one proceeds from the othe and they all go up in concert; a true cause and effect.

And the last I saw, zooplankton dont drive cars, trucks, busses, or produce electric power with coal.
