How does mental illness effect social economics?

  1. I do know that mental illnesses cost our US economy (and I believe I read that this is world wide too) more than any other illness in terms of disability (which is life long. Other disabilities mostly start later in life), absenteeism, treatment costs, and criminal treatment of those who can't control their behavior (with treatment, most probably could have, i expect).  Also there are all the people home sick with backaches and stomach aches and other ailments, which are caused by or made worse by mental illness or serious stress.  Only these problems don't get labeled as mental illness, so insurance covers their treatment.


  2. Whomever has a percieved or actual mental illness will in my opinion be looked disfavorably upon by the market.  Ineffiency or inadequacy of percieved abilty does not breed profitability.

    Commercialism and moralism do mix well with those that seek only to amass wealth.
