  1. Do you mean the minerals needed for plantgrowth?

    There is only one source. The soil. But after many eons of plangrowth and vegetation in a rainforest all of those minerals have been sucked up into the plants and the trees meaning there are no useful minerals and metals left in the soil. Cut down the trees and you don´t even have enough nutrients in the soil to grow grass. A good way to destroy land then.
