i listen to ryan seacrest in the morning here in los angeles, i listen to him around 6am and then when i listen to him around 830-930am, it is the same conversation and callers from earlier in the morning..supposedly he is on from 5-10 am, but it seems like he's there from 5-730, and then they just replay those couple of hours of conversation till 10...why do morning radio shows do this...

  1. I have a morning show I listen to here in IL. They don't seem to do that, but then again I only listen in on the car ride to work. My guess might be it is like watching the news -- it is on for a few hours, but they end up repeating the same stuff. I guess this is helpful for people just tuning in. I guess they assuming they get one group of listeners early then a totally different group later so they repeat. Personally, that makes me feel that the show is bad and that the station is not much better for doing it.

  2. I don't think it's laziness or a symptom of a bad show.

It's the profit motive!  They're paying the guy a fortune to do 2-1/2 hours. If he does any more than that then it's bound to get stale.  But people love to listen to him, they make lots on advertising for their station.  So they capitalize, and like the lady said, count on the fact that most people won't be listening for more than 2 hours at a time.

The listeners are happy.  The station gets good ratings.  And the shareholders are happy.  What's not to like about this?

  3. laziness...I guess.

  4. big market (LA), big talent (Seacrest)

usually people listening at 5:15 in the morning aren't the ones listening at 9:30 so the bigger stations with the bigger names tend to shuffle the elements of a morning show around
