How does my GPS calculate the time to reach a place?

Does it factor is posted speed limits? How does it factor in for traffic?

how do websites like yahoo maps and google maps do it?

  1. It basically knows the hwy speed limit and assumes that.

    But as you drive, it uses your real speed to recalculate the distance / speed = time.

    Google man and Yahoo map just used hwy speed limits only.

    Recently TomTom came out with REAL traffic data to calculate the estimated time of arrival.

  2. they dont they just go off by the kms and x it by the speed limits in each one of the areas. it dose not include trafic so if it says 20mins that is a clear run not peak hour trafic. good luck hope this helped
