Every year about this time, I notice that certain vegetables (garlic, onions, etc.) that I have had in my refrigerator some how know it is Spring? They begin to grow roots or green stems or leaves as if planted in the ground. They do not do this during the Winter or Summer. How is this possible if they are in the refrigerator that is not opened to the outside environment? What physical signs do they have in this closed chamber under such controlled conditions?
