  1. They get a report through the DMV.

  2. I work for a car insurance co.

We use your DL. It has all your driving info because the DMV keeps it all under it.

Sucks when you've got tickets or accidents when your trying to get car insurance...it can get pretty high depending on how long ago those incidents took place. They usually clear off within 3years after the day it happened as long as your all paid off and all.

  3. Most companies use Dl# and Last name or SS#

  4. There are two different ways to do it.  In the old days, they'd just get your name, date of birth, and license number, and turn it over to their insurance company for a report.  Now they have to do that, but the insurance company can't give them the result, so they usually fill out a form and send it over to the state DMV for a drivers record report.

The thing is, DMVs share records.  So it's going to show your current license, your prior licenses, and any violations/tickets from, well, forever.  And if the insurance company kicks out that you've been involved in at fault accidents, they'll tell the employer they won't insure you - but they won't say why.

  5. U answered your own question. Yes they can check with either one. Remember when u talk to them they always have u verify one or the other.

  6. With your DL number, the DMV and insurance companies share info back and forth now, like if you cancel your insurance it automatically gets reported to DMV .

  7. They get the info from the state.
