I took my chihuahua to the vet last week to get his shots and the minute the vet saw him, he told me to get him neutered. How does he know he needs neutering? Do they remove his privates? His appointment is for Oct 27th. WIll this calm him down?

  1. If the vet has eyes then he will know

  2. The vet saw he was still intact (had his testicles). Neutering is a fairly simple, painless, procedure in which these are removed. There are many benefits - your dog will not develop testicular cancer, and it will probably mellow him down a bit. It also decreases the probability of male aggression, and most importantly, it will prevent him from siring unwanted litters.

  3. He saw his little dang-lings.  If you don't know what that means.... here I will spell it out "testicles".

  4. This is a joke question right?

  5. a) your vet knew b/c he went to college for 6-8 years and it's their JOB to know. no joke.

    b) it does help calm them down a bit, but keep in mind, your dog is a high strung breed, so it won't be a drastic change, just a slight one.

    c) they're not going to remove his peins or anything, they simply go in, make a small incision in the nut sac, extract the two testes, sew him back up, and he'll be out within an hour or two and within a week your dog won't even know the difference anymore. it's not painful, not very invasive anymore, and the recovery time is faster than it used to be.

  6. well its pretty obvious, if his testicles are still visible.

  7. Well if the dog still has their testicles then it is very obvious it's not neutered.

They remove the dogs testicles during neutering.

  8. This is the second most funny question today.  Well, if he has balls, he is not neutered.  (Excuse my language)  You, my dear, must need new glasses.

  9. She (or he) looked! Yes it's easy to tell!

  10. When a dog is neutered, the testicles are basically removed.

If your dog still has two little round marble looking things near his rearend, then he has likely not been neutered.

In most dogs, it does calm them down somewhat.  It doesn't make them lazy, but it makes them less frantic.

  11. Well, you gotta remember we're talking a chi here.  His personals are going to be pretty small!  I've seen people come home with a bull calf in their trailer thinking they have a steer!   On a bull calf you can't possibly miss them!
