  1. Great Question!

The college season has a fall schedule (August-December) and a Spring schedule (January-May) and the Championship is held at different sites every year...typically East one year, West another thus giving teams a different venue and a different travel schedule each year.

NCAA events are typically consist of 54 holes holes.  Traditionally it's been 36 holes the first day and 18 the final day.  Lately there's been a switch to 18 holes a day and eliminating 36 in one day...they are long days for all involved.

Teams get to the NCAA's based on their schedule (win/loss).  Teams then play in Regional (there are three regions...West, East and Central).  From there, approximately 10-12 teams qualify from each region to advance to the NCAAs.

The NCAA is moving to a different format starting next year for the Championship.  Next year will feature stroke play followed by a cut.  The top teams making the cut will then play Match Play...should make things for the fans!

I hope this helps!  Good to see there's interest in college golf!

  2. I play college golf, so I can answer your questions.  NCAA golf is just like any other college sport. There are tournaments where a range of 10-16 teams play. The way the team plays in these tournaments help compile the rankings on golfstat.com and golfweek.com.  There are normally 3 rounds in each tournament, 36 holes the first day and 18 the second day.  On rare occasions, a four round event is played (usually in the conference championships).  NCAA golf is played in two seasons, the fall and spring.  August-November and February-May.  At the end of the spring season, each conference holds a tournament where the top teams advance to the next stage.  The teams that get out of their region play in the national championship for the big prize.

  3. Im not real certain about a few of your questions, but I will answer as best as I can.  NCAA Golf (as well as NAIA and Junior College) plays all year round.  A typical Division I golf team will play 4 Tournaments in the Fall (typically all college golf rounds consist of 54 holes over 2 days, 36 the first day and 18 the second day).  Sometimes in the Fall a tournament may be 36 holes, 18 each day, do to the time change and lack of sufficient daylight to get in 36 in one day.  In the spring there will usually be 5-6 Tournaments (not counting a Conference, Regional, and National Tournament).

If a team plays well enough throughout the year and plays well in Conference then they will be invited to one of Three regional tournaments (East, Central, and West).  There are 27 Teams at each Regional and The low 10 Teams and Ties make it to Nationals.

At Nationals you will have approximately 30 Teams and there are 4 Rounds to decide the National Championship.

  4. The teams that win each conference tournament automatically advance to the NCAA tournament. There are 65 teams that play in the NCAA Tournament. The other teams that dont win their conference have to hope they get in by having a good record.

The NIT tournament is for the teams that are good, but not good enough to make the NCAA tournament.

Also in the NCAA tourmanet every team is seeded either 1-16 with the better team having the higher seed.
