I am working on a genealogy project, and I need to find records of family member's certificates and things like such. Will a census report help to track these down?

Any answers and help on this topic of genealogy would be much appreciated!

  1. Here's 1911: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/archi...

    And this is 1901: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/02/02...

Both are free databases through the Archives of Canada. If you're really interested in finding out more about your Canadian ancestors, I'd suggest snooping around on that site. They have published some wonderful information. I'm not sure what kind of certificates you're hoping to find, but all records of national interest are kept by the Archives of Canada and provincial records are kept in the provincial archives.

  2. For most provinces, on-line access to vital records are only  for birth years over 100 years and deaths/marriages over 72 years ago, except BC's death index which goes up to 1979.

Census records can be very useful for your research especially for discovering mother's maiden names through an elder sibling's vital records, or from a live-in grandparent's name and from learning about the area where they lived.

These links have records for the years 1901, 1906, and 1911:
