  1. It really depends for which country you are from. In most cases, a battery of tests are administered - written exams (history, geography, current events, and the facility of a foreign language), and panel interviews. Check with your own Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the State Department (for US).

  2. The United States has engaged in diplomatic activity since before its inception. Over the years, as diplomacy has evolved, so has the U.S. Department of State. Today, our professionals are among the most respected in the world.

In these pages, you'll see just who we are, what our mission is, and where our embassies and consulates are located. We'll also address principles that are important to the culture of the U.S. Department of State — our commitment to diversity and to meeting the needs of our employees.

Finally, we'll direct you to resources, such as our Diplomats in Residence (DIRs), where you can get additional information about our employment opportunities.
