If it's less than thirty years old, you close and lock, and put it on self-clean, right?

Dont try it until you ask that question to the manufacturer of the oven cleaner lol. However, there are cold oven cleaners that do not require the pilot go on and off all the time. I can see what your concern is and I am sure that there is a good oven cleaner, or if not why not formulate one and make a zillion dollars. By the way if the self oven cleaner on your oven is broken, contact an appliance repair and ask them how much it costs to fix it.
