How does one create colour?

Question

I know that colour of, say, hair is down to information in the persons genes and DNA. But how do factories make colours things? I know they dye them, but whats in the dye that gives it colour?

Color is not created, it is however a property of light that an object reflects. (sorry for the English)

it is a property of the material/compound. the molecules that make it up will absorb all light as it hits the material but due to electron energy levels and other such things of physics they only re-emit light of certain wavelengths. the wavelength of light determines the its colour. we cannot change what wavelengths a compound will emit but we can use different compounds to create different colours
