  1. Presumably, they would brag on their web-page,

    "Accredited by . . ."

If you have doubts about their claim, you may be able to

contact the accrediting organization and *ask* if they

    have indeed accredited the school.

    *ONe* accriditing body is

    http://www.sacs.org/

  2. Accredidation is a myth.

You and I can start a company called

    US School Accredidation System

We then need only establish rules to get accredited.

"All member schools must provide daily instruction in reading, writing and numbers over a period of 40 weeks in any given year."

So, anything that meets our rules and pays our fees gets certified by us.

And they can brag about this.

What you need to know is what other schools are in this (public school systems?) do they come out and inspect, do they require all teachers be certified, all text books be approved.

RPI, a major technical institute in the world, has an accredatation by a prestegious Architectural school board.

This board comes out and inspects the facilities.  Gets a list of the teachers and their credentials.  Get a list of the subjects taught, amount of hours books used.

As a result of this Accrediation Board, RPI has a 5 year Architecture BS degree NOT a 4 year one.

They went the extra mile and include more courses to get certified by this board and as a result students have to spend MORE school time at RPI than many other colleges.

There are Accredidations for Trade Schools and these certify places like Univeristy of Phoenix, Full Sail, Bryman Schools, John Robert Powers Modeling schools, ITT Tech

This accredation DOES allow these schools to get student loans, government funding for students, etc.

It also states they meet legal requires and teacher requirements.

It doesn't mean Harvard will accept a University of Phoenix or ITT "BA" degree in Electronics or Computers.

It just means you are getting a legal value for your money.

  3. It should say on the school website; you can also call the school and ask for certification of its accreditation.

Accreditation is only important if you plan to return to public school before graduation; colleges really don't care if your diploma is from an accredited institution or not.  Almost every college in the US accepts homeschool transcripts and diplomas prepared by parents.

  4. Contact the school and they can tell you.

  5. They will usually brag about it if they are.

What is more important than accreditation in general is *who* they are accredited by.  You can Google accreditation for more info about that.

  6. The best thing to do is call and ask. Or go to the school's website and find out. They usually write it down because it's an important point.
