In the pool when I am kicking with the kickboard in front of me, many times I just stay still or move very slowly. Even when the kickboard is not there, with both hands forward, I don't seem to make much headaway only through kicking. As far as I know one is supposed to push through the water througk kicking rather than pull through the arms. How does one improve the push only through kicking when the arms are dormant?

  1. if you're doing flutter kick (freestyle), try not to bend your knees too much, but don't keep them perfectly stiff either. just kind of relax and do small, quick kicks. also, make sure your toes are pointed but again, not too stiff. just make sure they are not pointed toward the bottom of the pool.

if you're doing breaststroke kick (not my best stroke :\), i know that you're supposed to bring your feet up to your butt then snap them back down and together.  my coach tells me to try to push the water straight back with my feet rather than kicking out widely. i would find a different source for this stroke though haha.

Butterfly kick is harder to do with a kick board, you just have to get the rhythm with your hips.

Backstroke is just like freestyle, but on your back. obviously.

hope i helped :-)   good luck!
