Question:

How does one gain consulting experience?

I've been working in human resources for a few years now and would love to move into something a bit different. It seems like many of the consulting jobs advertised require 3-5 years of experience, which I don't have! Any thoughts?

  1. Well, try this.

    Go to www.wolfcharmed.com

There are a few sites on there that will help you with consulting.  You can become a consultant for makeup or anything like that.  A consultant can be even on your own time and not to mention make a little bit of extra money on the side.  These programs, you can become an affiliate or a consultant on some.  By doing so, you can sign up for free or for a very small fee.  The fees are not outrageous and never cost over $100.  Only one of the sites that are there cost over that and that is Noah's Ark Workshop.  But that pays for a starter kit and comes with EVERYTHING you'll need to get started.  There are company's ranging from Candles, to pet things, from toys to just about whatever you can possibly think of!

If you have any other questions, I'd love to help with it.  Also be sure that when you go to www.wolfcharmed.com you check out Mompacks.  That would be a great site to get into as well and it would help you out in many factors of chosing a consultant program and they have loads listed there.

  2. You can take classes. or you can simply open your own consulting business. Its best to have degrees in the courses when you do this, but you open up your own experiences. I did this with my Insurance license. I opened up my own brokerage service. I did pretty well. I gained some extra experience for my resume.

  3. Human resources and consulting job in an advertising firm is a world of difference. Solutions and experience is needed to be dispensed by you and there will be a load of pressure for you if you aren't able to step up and deliver results. It's not as easy as you think. If you're truly interested, you can try to start at the basic level and work your way up.

  4. You could try with all that you've got right now, right away.

Guts is the key to every successful attempt. Use your imagination to fill up the lacking years. In doing so you may gain more experience in doing what you've wanted to in the first thought of the idea to move into something different.

If ya don't start right now, ya just can't succeed coz' it's only in your mind & no action. DO IT NOW. Asks later when you succeeded.

  5. DO NOT let those 3-5 year experience notes stop you.   There is only one way to get experience and that is to go out and find it.

please go spend the $12 on "The Dip" by Seth Godin. It is a terrific read at this point in your decision process.
