  1. Awww aren't you a callous little thing.    I hope someone puts you away, permanently. You'll be old someday too... if you're lucky.

  2. What do you mean by "for 'their' own good"? If they are an annoyance to you, than you are asking the wrong question and focused on the wrong person. If they are in need of supervision, you use loving family members. If their isn't any... then you hire caring help!

  3. "Put away"??  You mean stuck in a warehouse or something?

If you mean, "How does one make sure that an elderly person has the proper support and care" that's a different question.

You might want to go to a doctor's visit with this person; help to find out if medication is making him or her confused.  If the person has a diagnosis of senile dementia or alzheimers, and you are a close relative, you may be able to talk to the doctor about getting some help in the home.

We don't just "put away" our old folks once we get tired of them.

  4. Dude, really?

We don't throw away people when they're old. Those are the same people who took care of us and wiped our asses when we were little.

  5. Depends on your definition of "own good"  and put away, What do you mean? High Care Facility? Put somewhere where you dont have to worry about the person? Id be extremely hesitant to use those expressions in this environment.

It also depends on the opinion of a doctor or caseworker. Also dependent on where you live and the programmes avaliable. You and your family should be asking, Have we taken all reasonable steps to accomodate and care for this person at home or in a supported environment? If no, then see what services are avaliable in your area, if you have honestly taken all reasonable steps to ensure their welfare and accomodation to no avail (limited success) then you should then speak to a professional who would be able to do a detailed assessment.

    Hope this Helps...
