How does one get caught up on the news?

Question

I'm a teen who is going to be leading weekly student discussions on current events (including international) in the fall. The problem is, while I know bits and pieces, I'm not very knowledgeable in any one topic. Can someone recommend websites, periodicals, or books that I can use to prepare for the discussions?
