How does one get on the pedestrian walkway for the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan?

This will be my first visit to NY. Specific instructions on how to get to the pedestrian walkway will be highly appreciated.

Second, is there any charge to use the walkway?

Third, is there any souvenir shop (specific to Brooklyn Bridge) nearby?

1st Subway stop in Brooklyn..walk through the park and it goes right to the bridge. It's such a nice walk.GET A MAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend, first of all there no charge to use the pedestrian walkway on the Brooklyn Bridge. Here are the directions to the Brooklyn Bridge.

From the East Side

Take the downtown (southbound) #4, 5 or 6 subway lines (Green Line) to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall. When you exit the subway, walk across Park Row right on the entrance to the pedestrian walkway.

From the West Side

Take the downtown (southbound) "R" or "W" subway lines (Yellow Line Local) to City Hall. When you exit the subway, walk across City Hall Park from the subway to Park Row. At Park Row, turn right and walk north along Park Row from the park right up to entrance to the pedestrian walkway.

The walkway is right in from the the Municipal Building.

In regard to souvenir shops near the Brooklyn Bridge, there is one right on the ground floor of the Municipal Building, on the corner of Centre Street and Chambers Street.

You go downtown Manhattan.  To get to the bridge, take the 4,5 or 6 subway to the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall Station, the N or R subway to City Hall or the 2 or 3 subway to Park Place.

There should be ample signs but if you look across City Hall Park you will see the bridge.  You just head over and the walkway will be apparent.

There is no fee at all for walking across the Bridge and if you walk around, likely on the Brooklyn side, you should find a variety of souvenir shops.
