I don't know if it's even possible, but willingly, how could one "cancel" their drivers license?

  1. You go to the DMV and voluntarily surrender your license.  Believe it or not, it happens all of the time.  Especially with the elderly who have decided to give up driving.  You could also exchange it for a non-driver identification card.

  2. Most DMVs have a form to do this.  Some let you do it online, some make you come in person.

In some states, you can get a FREE state ID card if you need to give up your license voluntarily.

  3. Just go to your DMV and tell them you want to surrender it. You can also have driving privileges removed to make it the equivalent of a ID.

  4. Go to the DMV and turn it in. They will also remove you from the renewal list, if you like. Seniors that are told not to drive by their doctor or family do it. A picture ID replacement can be had for Identification purposes, my father-in-law just did all of this.
