  1. http://www.regaltitles.com/

  2. There are other Lords besides Peers of the Realm (in Great Britain).

Certain judges and (Church of England) bishops get the title as well. This is not passed down to their sons.

  3. You find a genuine monarch of a genuine country (doesn't have to be a king or queen - the Grand Dukes of Luxembourg and the Princes of Monaco are also sovereigns) who thinks enough of you to make you one of his/her barons. You will probably have to take citizenship of that country first.

Do not believe any of those companies who say you can buy the title "Lord" from them. You can't. Most of the titles they claim to sell are completely fictional, as genuine titles of nobility can't be bought and sold, any more than the titles "Doctor" and "Reverend" can be bought and sold.

One thing that *can* be bought and sold is the lordship of an English manor, which is an archaic piece of obsolete land rights. BUT, being "lord of the manor of X" does not carry the right to call yourself "Lord", any more than being a slum landlord or "landlord of the Rose & Crown pub" does.

    Edited to add:

The regaltitles.com site that Goodkat mentions is a prime example of the scam companies I'm talking about. Everything you'll read on it is a lie, designed to get stupid people to pay good money for a piece of parchment claiming that they have a totally fictional title.

  4. One is made a peer of the realm. The Queen and Parliament can bestow a peerage title on a person who has performed a duty so extraordinarly well to earn the tile.Peerage titles are not easliy bestowed or frequently given. The lowest peerage title that entitles the use of "Lord" is baron.

Probably the greatest actor of all time, Laurence Olivier, was given this hereditary title;his son is now the holder. The very successful and prolific playrights/composers Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd-Webber are also barons.Politicians also have earned this honor-Margaret Thatcher comes to mind.

The only other ways are to marry a princess and hope that the sovereign gifts you a title,or inherit it.

  5. Either

    1)  Make the Queen's birthday list.  Becoming a prime minister is usually a good first step along with achieving millionaire status, discovering a wonder drug, or winning the Nobel Prize.

    or

    2)  Inherit the title.

    or

    3)  Marry a younger princess who is willing to allow the sovereign to give you noble status.  This didn't work for either of Princess Ann's two husbands, but it did for Tony Snowdon.
