Question:

How does one go about asking a doctor to prescribe medicinal marijuana?

I've had really horrible cramps since I was 13 (I'm now 23) and I can't take pills (not even Motrin) because they all make me nauseous. I tried birth control pills to regulate my period, but it didn't help with my cramps. The only thing I have tried, that has worked, was marijuana, though I don't know how to go about asking for a prescription. Any advice?

P.S. I live in California.

Thank you in advance.

  1. Find a good doctor, tell them your situation and that weed helped. They will give you a prescription. If they don't, say good day and find another. Rinse repeat.

  3. You need to go to a specialized doctor. There are a lot of doctors that simply charge a nominal fee and you can get a cannabis club card. When you go in for your appointment just say that you have insomnia and want to explore "natural" remedies Smoking weed won't consistently help your cramps. It sure as h**l has never helped mine. But I doubt that there is any doctor that will give a 13 year old a marijuana prescription, unless you have a terminal illness.

  4. im the same exact way. i agree tell them that nothing works and that u smoked when you had cramps and it helped alot. just lay it out for them. also i would try to find a doctor who is known to prescribe it

  5. You don't go to a doctor to get what you want or think you need.

You go with symptoms and they will use their best judgment and medical knowledge to prescribe you what they consider the best treatment.

Any good doctor would recognize drug seeking behavior and intentionally not prescribe you that.

  6. In California it looks like you need to apply for the Medical Marijuana Program and get an ID card. Go to the California Department of Public Health in your county to apply.
