  4. I am not sure if I have enough information to give you what you need answered but I will attempt.  I started a group in TX and am currently getting a group  in Colorado going.

I first had to evaluate the needs of my own homeschool and then began to visit with other families about their needs.  When I had some vision for what the needs were I began to talk with those people I was in relationship about helping to get something more formal going.  Of course, just having a park day on a regular basis can be a support group because the purpose is to provide support.  For me, I wanted a bit more formal stuff so I began to brainstorm, pray and discuss names and vision.  From that point, the ones who were interested in working with me I began to get to know and see what their gifts/talents were.  We decided we wouldn't try to be all things to all people because we just didn't have the $ or leadership for that.

I am not sure where you plan to advertise but we developed our own newsletter for our members and charged a minimum membership fee to pay for copies and postage.  If you are trying to get the word out, check with your state support group or HSLDA.

  5. It really depends on how "officially" organized you want the group to be.. Some are non-profit, some are just informal groups without membership fees or coordinators.

As for advertising... where do homeschoolers hang out in your area?  For us, it is the library, the Christian store (as they have homeschool materials), the used book store, community centers, music schools, churches, grocery stores, online support groups for your state or city (like yahoo groups)... anywhere that homeschool families might frequent.

As for what it should say... just be truthful.. are you going to coordinate everything or are you looking to work with other homeschoolers to develop the group?  Co-op? Sports or just social activities? Different age groups?

    Good Luck!
