How does one identify an old doughboy helmet? I bought one at an auction and the only mark on it is an "M".

The webbing is all but gone and the finish is pretty rough. I need guidance in restoring this piece...Beech

  2. If by dough boy you mean WW1, it going to be difficult. These were made and worn through WW2 by both USA and GB. An authentic "hail buster" will be hard to identify by site alone. In USA these were worn by civil aviation on both shores. There are fairly common.
