I transferred my handycam video to my PC using Windows Movie Maker. But when I burnt it on a DVD, it wont play... in fact, it wont even recognize the disc. What could be the issue? How to resolve it?

  1. The issue?

Windows Movie Maker doesn't have video DVD authoring capability.  Just burning the captured video file onto a DVD is not enough, as you have found out.

    How to resolve it?

Get software that authors video DVDs!

    Recommendation:

Roxio Easy Media Creator.  I started with version 6 (a "light" version of which was included free bundled with my first DVD-burning drive) and have been upgrading all along through the years.  The current version is 10.

It not only authors DVDs, it really does everything you could want to do with all kinds of media (input video, photos, music, etc. - output to DVD, CD,  even YouTube and portable media players).

Another thought - since software was included with my first DVD drive - just maybe, software was included with yours!  Check it out!

  3. There's more to a DVD than just copying the video files - the video has to be in the right format (DVD compliant MPEG-2), the disk has to be written in a different format from normal (UDF), you need extra files to tell your DVD player how to navigate the disk and then all the files have to have the right names and be in the right folder structure!  Fortunately there are apps that'll take care of all that for you - have a look at DVD Flick.  It'll take your footage in a variety of formats and produce a playable DVD for you.
