My Godly church has just e-mailed a file with the extension .mdi. Since this is possibly about our Christian Prison Outreach program, I really need to open it. I am running satanic Office 2007 pro. Is there a way to open this file? In Jesus' name!

  1. Okay this is the Wikipedia Explaination:

"MDI (Microsoft Document Imaging format) is a file format created by Microsoft for storing raster images of scanned documents together with optional annotations or metadata which can include the text of the document, generated by OCR. MDI is a proprietary format - the specifications have not been made public by Microsoft, and MDI files can only be produced or read by certain Microsoft software, in particular the Microsoft Office Document Imaging (MODI) module included in Microsoft Office 2003 and later versions."

Okay, so try opening it with the Microsoft Office Document Imaging  Module in Microsoft Office menu.

  2. A mdi file is a rastor image file used by MS Office via OCR. If you have MS Office 2003 or later, go to the Start Menu in Windows. Find the Microsoft Office folder. Select Microsoft Office Tools. Select Microsoft Office Document Imaging. Select File|Open in this program and you will be able to open a MDI of TIFF file.

  3. You'll need Office 2003

A high resolution, tag-based graphics format. .MDI files are only supported by the Microsoft Office 2003 version (see Associated Links for Office 2007 solution) of Microsoft Office Document Imaging. If you are going to share files with people who are using Office Document Imaging 2002, or another document imaging program, it's best if you save your files in TIFF format for compatibility. .....

Or ask them to remail it in TIFF format
