Question:

How does one order/receive military medals they have earned?

I am asking this on the behalf of my grandmother who wishes to collect the medals my grandfather has earned. He has passed away, and he never picked them up, or went through the process to get them because he never cared for them, but we would like to have them. Any information is appreciated.

  1. if he had any metals owed to him it would be on his DD214. after that you can just buy the metals off the internet or army surplus store.

  2. you can look through his paperwork and find all his orders of medals he earned and buy them online.

  3. Go to the following URL:

    http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/militar...

    Download the standard form 180.

    Fill it out.

In Section II part 2, where it asks for other information and/or documents requested, request the one time replacement of all medal that were earned.

Your grandmother, as next of kin, will have to fill out and sign the form.
